Wedding Fever

Well, lucky for me two teachers at my school got married this year, i mean this month.  It was pretty exciting to be invited!  The first was is Comy Teacher's wedding (many times you get labeled as your classroom name at our school, and in Korea, sometimes you are just "teacher").  Her wedding took place in Ulsan at a big wedding convention place.  It was a huge building with many rooms and halls.  There are rooms for you to take pictures with the bride, there are a number of different wedding halls and then a maybe one dinning area.  There are also the hair salon places and stuff like that.  It usually is an all inclusive deal.  The bride rents her dress too.  I dont think Koreans really care to keep things around.  Theres a lot of people in a very small area of land, so the less is probably the better.  And the dresses are very expensive.

So the days kinda runs like this:

1.  Take photos with the bride.

My boss and her husband.

Comy teacher and I
She looks like such a princess!

Arty Teacher and all the teacher's at my school.
(Talk about girl power!)

2.  Watch the wedding take place.  This part you can watch if you feel like it.  Its pretty much close family who are in front and watching every moment.

The bride and grooms parents will wear a hanbok (traditional Korean dress, usually only the women wear it).  Brides family will wear pink to signify, "oh, we are so sad we are loosing our daughter."  The groom's mother will wear a blue one to celebrate the fact that they are gaining a daughter.

3. Eat!  Theres a BIG dinning hall/ buffet type restaurant that you go and eat delicious food.  THe couple either will take off right after the ceremony or they will stop by quickly and say hi and thank you.

4.  Finished.  Everything takes about two hours tops maybe.

Comy teacher's wedding felt like a business deal.  I didn't get to watch the ceremony take place, we were in a hurry.  She looked more scared than excited.  And her husband appeared pretty stoic.

But Arty teacher....
She was so cute and so excited!!  Her dress was very gorgeous too.  We took photos with her and then headed to the ceremony.

They say their, "I do's" at the beginning and the groom yelled his.  He was so excited!

Joanne informed me that Arty teacher and her now husband have only known each other for three months!  I told her i have been in Korea longer than they have known one another!  She said it was love at first sight.  ANd the funny thing is, is that their mom's (the bride and groom's) have been friends since high school!  SO cute and kinda funny.  This wedding was much more heart warming and sweet.  I felt more welcomed here.

Sadly, Arty teacher left Genius because she is moving to a different city for her husband.  She was the art teacher at Genius, if you didnt already figure it out.

After the wedding and after the lunch we headed over to the beach for a little break.  I was with all the teachers from my school.

Joanne: My friend, my coworker and my next door neighbor.  She has been a huge help to me and great person to have here!

Our manager teacher, Sunny teacher, and my boos Ann
(aka the old ladies, they said it, i didnt)

My boss, me, Joanne

all the teachers but 1

little did they know...

"Young generation"
the girl sitting next to me kept making that face with her hand, so she wanted all of us to do it.  Then when we'd take the photo she'd get frustrated and give up.  I dont know why, but it made for some good laughs.

We all teach English

Lastly, on the way to and from Arty teacher's wedding (which was about and hour car ride) we rocked out in my boss's car to American tunes such as: Maroon 5, Rhianna, Jason Mraz, Jackson 5, The Beegees, Justin Bieber, Chicago, The Eagles, Black Sabbath (ya, really!), Eminem.....  I laughed pretty hard when a couple of the songs came on.  For a little bit i forgot i was in Korea, until we got to the wedding.  But even then im used to it all.

The End.
